Disney cast member recreates castle show on a rainy day with an all-ice cream cast
This is where I spent 85% of my time when I was deployed to Cosmic Ray’s for a week during my CP!
One year ago today was my first time getting deployed to another work location as a Disney Cast Member, as well as my first 12 hour shift. I was slightly scared because it was a totally new experience for me.
I was sent to the insanely busy Outdoor Vending, who runs the ice cream and popcorn carts, for an entire week, and then to Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe in Tomorrowland (one of the busiest restaurants in the country) for the next week after that. But I rose to the challenge.
I worked hard and didn’t let my inexperience stop me. I learned the menus, picked up the tricks, made new friends, and even earned a Guest Service Fanatic card from one of the leaders by creating magical moments with guests. By the end of those two weeks I had officially worked in every single land in Magic Kingdom, and I was a better Cast Member because of it.
I love this for a few reasons:
1. It’s in Frontierland, my Cast Member home. This particular popcorn stand is right next to Westward Ho, one of my locations.
2. I also worked at this stand when I was deployed to ODF. The popcorn maker actually broke and we had to bring it in from Liberty Square. This is also where a CM got all up in my face about the ice creams when I totally already had them memorized. Don’t tell me about the sugar-free strawberry bar because I will school you.
3. It’s Disney popcorn, and if you don’t love that you’re lying because it’s amazing.
I’ll let you put the explanation here, but I found it!
Let me give y’all a little background on this picture.
For those who don’t recognize it, this is Goofy dressed up as Jacob Marley from Mickey’s Christmas Carol. I saw him once, and only once, in my years working at Disneyland.
Almost a year ago, thesirenofhats asked me a question about this Goofy, saying that she once saw him, but that cast members she’d asked about him since then had had no idea what she was talking about. I told her a story about the day I saw him, and how I may have (inadvertently) killed the character.
Then late last night, this picture showed up in my submission box (Lilly, who submitted it, has a Disney blog at http://hotandcoldrunningchills.tumblr.com/, but you may have known her until recently as seacastlexstech).
I’ve searched high and low for a picture of him for years without luck, so I’m downright giddy as I write this.
I don’t have a source for the image, so I’m afraid I can’t credit — even a google image search just points to tumblr’s #Jacob Marley tag, but I scrolled all the way down to where no more posts loaded and didn’t see any post with the image in it.
But for those who remember that post from June of 2012, I’m excited to prove that neither Gaby nor I made it up when we said that Goofy once hung out on the Haunted Mansion balcony dressed as Jacob Marley.
Oh my goodness! Make sure you read thedisneyfiles’ story (question about this Goofy), it’s so good!
If you skip ahead to 3:54 you’ll see me working at Singapore on register! You can even hear me speaking to the guests. So super excited that I found this!!
P.S. I can’t believe how slow it was!!
Halloween in Belgium
This is Halloween! I had to work from 11-9, but I did get a change of pace: Belgium! Unlike Brewers, where I spend most of my days, Belgium has food. I was exhausted because my roomies and I stayed up talking the night before, but I did get to my bus on time. I even got some Halloween candy at the Vista bus stop.
Pizzafari Cast always get the costume jokes, but I love eating there!
New DCP Posts
I haven’t linked any of my DCP stories on here in a while, so here are the latest ones:
I have two more posts in the queue and am working on more. Enjoy!
